” Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
Now that is true love, if you ever find it. When I tell someone that I love them, I don’t mean physical love, or being “in” love with them. I mean that I love them with love as it is designed. The last verse is what I think needs the most time spend on.
“Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away.”
Real love won’t hurt you.
Real love will protect you.
Real love won’t remember you for bad things.
Real love will remember you for good things.
It saddens me to see that divorce rate is about 50% of all marriages. If the person who claims they love you isn’t patient, isn’t kind, is jealous, boasts, is proud, dishonors people, is self-seeking, is easily angered, keeps records of wrongs, delights in evil, doesn’t protect, trust, hope or perseveres, then their love isn’t real.
Don’t get with someone because another person makes you happy. It is crazy how often you hear the phrase “I love you” thrown around. Do you think that they mean love like it is written truthfully in 1 Corinthians? Chances are, no.
People wouldn’t be suffering as bad as they are now, if they knew what real love is like. No one needs to be scared of love, because real love doesn’t harm you. We should be able to say I love you to someone and be able to mean everything that love is listed as.
Love brings community. And community cannot be a word without unity. So let us be one in love. Real, True Love.
