Original Poem of the Week 2

Continuing on with the theme of wandering, walking, and traveling, here is another poem I wrote a while back.

Some walks you have to take alone.
You need to breathe in the fresh air,
Listen to the earth,
And breathe.

Some walks you have to take
With no destination in mind.
Some walks you have to take to
escape your mind.
The thoughts can flood your world.
But you can escape,
Run far away from the pain.
Clear your mind.

Though the streets may be dark and empty,
And everyone sleeps.
Some walks you have to take
Alone.

The hum of the street lights
As the only source of
Sound and light.

The darkness envelopes your soul.
Like a black hole,
It depletes any benign thought
That might be scrolling across your brain,
And attaches visceral panic to them
Stealing the light.

Some walks you have to take
Out of fear.
Fear of the unknown.
Any chance to escape the darkness.
To escape the pain.
The fear must be faced.

Some walks you have to take
For clarity.
To free the soul,
To regain your hope.

You seek the clarity.
The ceasing of fear.
The end of darkness.
You seek to breathe
The fresh air.

And some walks,
You have to do so
Alone.
