The Art Of A Memory

The month of April is full of Awareness projects. Things like: Stress Awareness Month, Alcohol Awareness Month, National Child Abuse Awareness Month, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I wrote the following paper on the effects of these situations that need more awareness.

The following paragraphs is a paper I wrote titled “The Art of A Memory”.

Memories are engraved in our minds. We can’t take back memories, or erase them, leave them. Memories are stuck in our brain, stuck in our hearts, our souls, our whole entire self. We try to make the pain of a bad memory, leave. And we try to enhance the effects of a good memory. We can’t get enough of the good, and want to stop the bad. For something fed, grows and something starved, dies. We want to starve the bad and feed the good. But memories can’t be tampered with. They are permanent. They are scars. They are us.

Without memories we are nothing, but a human being going around this world with no experiences. We need experiences to grow. We can only grow, with pain. Pain releases experience. It doesn’t define us. But what does is how we move on and learn from the pain. That is what defines us.

The good. The bad. Memories express the feelings we have trapped inside. Feeling of anger, sadness, joy, excitement, pain. Memories express the sights we’ve seen, the smells. The things we’ve touched and felt. Not emotionally felt, but physically. Without memories we are nothing. Without memories, nothing would happen.

A single memory can change everything. A memory of death, of abuse, neglect, brokenness. That memory changes us. It changes our lives in ways no one expects. Suddenly we take a left turn to darkness. A right turn to depression. We do downhill to rock-bottom. A place people shouldn’t have to suffer in. Yet we do. Yet people are full of darkness, and depression. And hundreds, upon thousands, upon millions of us hit rock-bottom. All for different reasons. All from different memories.

The power of a memory, the pain the suffering the turmoil. Can take drastic turns. Turns to cut. To drink. To pop pills. Memories can even send you to commit suicide. Something that is too real for many people. Something that is a reality. And a reality from a memory.

Why should we sit? Why should we be still? Why should we do nothing when people are suffering?  People who were cutting, who were drinking and popping pills, whatever it may be. People who went so far down into a living hell at rock-bottom. People suffer and you sit around doing nothing? No memory should result in death. And because of a miracle, mine didn’t. But that doesn’t mean anything. A memory is still there. A memory still has raw pain, and a memory can change everything.

So don’t sit around doing nothing. Get up and move. Help someone suffering, in pain and in turmoil. Because you could save a life. The person sitting next to you has over a 70% chance to experience something so terrible, so life threatening, so painful that it would scar them forever. Maybe even send them to rock-bottom. Maybe even send them to want to die. So save them, don’t try to erase the memory. It can’t be done. Just help them up. Give them a ladder, better yet, put them on your shoulders and pull them up from rock-bottom. Because it is never too late to act. It is too late when they aren’t here anymore.

So act, move, get up. This is reality. This is our society. But we can change it, we can move, we can act, we can change this. But it only happens if we get up. Help someone, save someone. Make someone’s day. Before it is too late.

A memory is permanent, but make the feelings temporary.

Answers To The Questions

Earlier today, I saw a friend of mine, Chuck, make a blog post about random question. So I am here to do exactly the same. I found a random question generator, I am going to take the first couple and answer them truthfully. So y’all can get the “art of a question”!

1. When you were younger, what did you want to do with your life?

Honestly, I wanted to be in the Army. I thought of it as a way to be heroic and make a status for myself. Looking back now, as I am still in High School, sometimes I still think about it. I am always intrigued when recruiters from the Army come, or when I talk to people who have been in the Army. You get a real perspective on things. Things become real, and I like real. So yes, the Army.

2. What is one thing you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my guitars or my band. I know that is technically two things, but I don’t care! My music has saved me and I thank God for it everyday. I would not be the person I am today if I didn’t have my guitars or my band. It is a great outlet for me to use to escape from the world, and come into a different world. I would definitely recommend it to people who need to release some anger. Because I sure use it for an outlet!

3. Do you believe in “love at first sight”?

Absolutely Not. Life isn’t a fairy-tale. It drives me insane when people think it is. They are viewing life with the archetypal lense. These people will never get far in life. There is no such thing as having a good life, having a small problem then someone comes along to fix it and all of a sudden your life is great. life doesn’t work that way, and neither does love. Love is complicated, and love is hard! Read my blog post about love and you can hear me rant about it more! But I can confidently say that “love at first sight” doesn’t exist. There is no way that you can love someone from the moment you first see them. Love is deeper than just appearance  Therefore “love at first sight” doesn’t exist.

I am going to try to do a few of these every month, maybe one a week just so you can see what I have to say about random questions! It’s all the art of a question my friends!

Don’t Worry, I’m Not Dead! (April Update!)

It has been way to long, my friends! I have so much to update on, it is crazy! For those of you who don’t know, I finally got my new guitar! It plays great! I’ll post some pictures later! And for those of you who know that I am in a band, I have some amazing news about that too!

My Buddy Evan, who is the worship leader for the youth group, decided that he wanted to let it be 100% student run. So he is stepping down as the leader of worship, and giving me and my band mates the opportunity to engage in it more! So I will have more chances to lead some songs and really be a engaged Christ Follower!

This Lenten Season is finally done and I get to sleep in my bed again. It was a long 40 days, but a God filled, 40 days for sure! If you’d ever like to hear the full story, find some way to contact me and we can chat it up. Or, maybe I’ll save it for a rainy day and write a blog post about it. (;

School is stressful, its hard to keep my grades up. But I am going to keep truckin’ through! It seems like you can’t get anywhere without a High School diploma these days. I actually signed up for my Sophomore year classes and it looks like this:

  • Geometry
  • U.S. Government/Economics
  • Intro to Chem/ Intro to Physics/Earth Science
  • English 10
  • Spanish 2
  • Choir
  • Speech/Debate

Fun stuff right? I really like writing, so I hope Speech/Debate will be a good class for me!

I’ll try to keep everyone updated with my obstacles and triumphs in April and May! Only A month and 2 days until my birthday!!! (:

Go For The Journey, Not The Destination!

Faith.

If you don’t know my writing patterns yet, whenever I put one word and end the sentence, it normally means I am going to grab my dictionary! So lets see what Merriam-Webster has to say today!
Faith: Something that is believed especially with strong conviction; complete trust.

Faith is a huge thing! It is a topic that shouldn’t be taken lightly at all! Think about anything in your life. Nothing happens unless you believe in it. Take for example, finals. If you go in with the mentality that you are going to fail the exam, then you most likely will! But, if you have faith in yourself, a little bit of faith goes a long, long way! Like I have mentioned in one of my earlier blog posts, Jesus told his disciples, if they have faith, even as small as a mustard seed, they could move the mountains!

Don’t think of believing in something strong about where it will bring you. Don’t get me wrong, it is good to make goals to get, but why stop there?! If you believe enough, you can do something for the rest of your life! Think more, about the things you will experience DURING the trip, because if you talk about an end, then it will eventually end. But if you talk about the endless possibilities and keep saying to yourself, “It has already brought me this far, let us see where it goes next!” then nothing, and I repeat nothing will stop you!

We all have a journey that God laid out for us to take. So don’t think about where it will stop and you will have to depart from it. Think about where it will take you next. Think of it as a never ending train ride, and you don’t have a ticket to a destination, but merely to each new stop along the track!

It Is Almost Here!

You guys have no clue how excited I am! In 2 or 3 weeks, I will have this guitar! I have been saving up my money for weeks, and I am so close, I can almost feel it!

God has given me a gift to use for his glory, and I have enjoyed playing with my band, for that soul reason! It is because of His Glory that I am able to play guitar, and get new ones!

I am so psyched!
